British junior champion Matt Walker has just gone one better and secured himself the junior downhill World Championships jersey.
Walker was the only man to beat Finn Iles all year in the World Cup series bu injuries meant he couldn’t really mount a challenge throughout the year. Walker bested the young Canadian once again in Cairns as he took advantage of a struggling Iles. Second place also went to a Brit rider as Joe Breeden followed his compatriot home 3.5 seconds in arrears.
Third place went to Cube’s German junior Max Hartenstern. Sylvain COugoureux rounded off an impressive two years in the junior field with fourth and Kaos Seagrave provided the final dusting of Brit success in fifth. Unfortunately he misses out on a podium as Worlds uses the traditional three riders.
Congrats also to Melanie Chappaz who took gold in the junior women’s event ahead of Shania Rawson and Flora Lesoin.
