China’s biggest ever downhill race held in Hebei

Great to see mtb spreading across the globe

It’s easy to just focus on Europe, Australasia and North America when we talk about mountain biking but there’s a whole world out there ready to shred.

That’s why we were happy to be contacted about China’s biggest ever downhill race that took place on June 18-19 in the Hebei province. Over 170 riders turned up and there was industry support form Norco, 72 Bike and many other brands.

China’s most famous mountain bike race is the Red Bull Skygate, where riders tackle the 999 steps down Tienman mountain, thankfully this course is a bit less bonkers and looks like a great race for all involved, let’s hope it’s a kickstart for more of the same in future!

The bike park track was 2.6 miles long with fifty corners. Lee Chang Yong took the win for men elite at 3:59:360 and Nannan Jiang was the fastest woman. There are a selection of photos and a highlights video from the event below.

There’s also a video here although it is all in Chinese so you may have some trouble understanding it.
