Aaron Gwin Wins the Men’s World Cup in Lourdes

Chainsaws revving, cow bells ringing...

Epic victory for Aaron Gwin out in Lourdes on one of the trickiest, tastiest and brutal tracks we have seen in a long time.

Aaron Gwin may have taken the victory out in France, but it was really Loic Bruni who threw it away. Fastest at all of the splits (including the final check by 2.362 seconds), all the hard work had been done, then he crashed almost within sight of the finish… he will be mightily disappointed. Take nothing away from Gwin though, he fully deserved the win, but he was to first to say that it was really Loic’s day. And what a day for YT Industries. Their first ever World Cup race and their first ever World Cup win. I think the YT/Specialized battle will continue season long… it makes for a great story.

Great to see Stevie Smith and Danny Hart back on the podium, and of course Amaury Pierron with his first World Cup podium (Troy Brosnan too of course).

We’ll have a full report later on, but for now here is the top 5.

1. Aaron Gwin: 3:09.131
2. Steve Smith: 3:11.602
3. Danny Hart: 3:11.817
4. Troy Brosnan: 3:13.281
5. Amaury Pierron: 3:13.440
