British National Series 2018 dates confirmed

Cwmcarn and Rheola back on the menu

Rheloa and Cwmcarn are set to return to the national circuit as a full five round series was announced this morning. It won’t be under Si Paton’s BDS banner but it’s great to see that organisers have clubbed together to form an elite series on British shores.

Cwmcarn 7/8 April

Fort William 12/13 May (Cat 1 UCI race)

Rheola 30 June – 1 July

Rhyd y Felin 11/12 August (Cat 1 UCI race)

Bringewood 22/23 September

The series will kick off at Cwmcarn in a race to be organised by the Welsh Gravity Enduro Series. It’s a bit of a divergence from them but they’ve proven they’re capable of all the logistics of a downhill race and more. There’s no word yet on what track will be used but with Y Mynydd having a load of updates this winter we’d be hard pressed to see past it.

Fort William’s traditional World Cup warm up is next in the calendar and it will be organised by the SDA. This will be a UCI Cat 1 race meaning UCI points are on offer for the British National Series for the first time since 2015.

The SDA will also be hosting the National Championships mid way through the season. Glencoe will host meaning chairlift access and a totally brutal track.

Next up, the return of the mighty Rheloa – the first of the final three rounds organised by MiJ downhill. Rheloa is a Dragon Downhill classic and we’re stoked to see it return, hopefully the Star Wars heckle fest will come along with it.

Rhyd y Felin is up next and another chance at UCI points for riders. This clashes with Mont Sainte Anne so will give a different batch of riders a sniff at some points. Bringewood will host the series finale.

Right, we’ve got a National Series and now it’s time to get entered. Fresh venues, new organisers and time to give it another go. If you’ve been umming and ahhing the past few years over entering, now’s the time to put your money where your mouth is and get it sorted. We’ll see you there.
