Fort William podium, L to R: Rennie, Atherton, Minnaar, Peat and Hill.
In the men’s many people thought that current World Cup and World Champion Sam Hill would walk away with the title this year, especially after his performance at the first round in Maribor. But after the Atherton domination in Andorra and then the amazing scenes in Fort William we have all seen that Hill can be beaten. It is so close in the points battle for the overall title, consistency is needed but also a willingness to let it all hang out when necessary.
In the women’s it is the same story. Jonnier and Atherton are so close in the points, and with her victory in Scotland Moseley has moved up, but is it too little too late (even this early on in the season)? Again consistency is the word, at the moment Jonnier has it but if Atherton holds it all together then she can destroy the field.
The World Cup now moves to Canada for rounds 4 and 5, but before all of that there is the World Champs in Italy.
