Weekly Dirt #3: MTB News Roundup in 10 Hits

6: City Downhill kicking off

The City Downhill World Tour is kicking off, with the first event having taken place last week in Brazil. Top World Cup racers were in attendance, with Filip Polc doing his urban thing and winning the opening race. There are three more races on the calendar, including Chile, Slovakia and one secret location.

Find out more here: City Downhill

Check out Polc’s helmet cam below and then compare it with an altogether different result for Tomas Slavik (see his tyre-exploding incident here).

7: Devinci Global Racing team news

Devinci Global Racing have just put out this great 2013 season recap video, highlighting Steve Smith’s multiple big wins on the international circuit. For 2014 Smith will be joined once again on the team by Swiss talent Nick Beer, along with young Australian Dean Lucas, who made his mark on the Junior World Cup scene last year.

Steve Smith by Sven Martin.

While Smith remains the backbone, Nick Beer and Dean Lucas add depth and electricity to the DGR roster. Beer, who turned pro in 2007 as a 19-year-old phenom, is an ex-European champion and no stranger to the UCI World Cup podium. Lucas, on the other hand, was one of the top ranked juniors in 2013 thanks to multiple World Cup podium finishes and a massive win at Val di Sole, Italy.

Devinci Global Racing is proudly supported by Cycles Devinci, SRAM, RockShox, Avid, TRUVATIV, Easton, Schwalbe, Fox Head Clothing, Downhill Supreme 2, E-13, ODI, SDG, Five Ten, MyPakage, and Crankbrothers.

8: Is the end nigh for GoPro?

We’ve just had one of these Hitcase iPhone cases drop into the office and we are seriously impressed. Waterproof and shockproof, and judging by the quality of the above video GoPro could have a battle on their hands. What do you reckon? Perhaps a tad on the big side to practically use on the bike? We’ll let you know how ours goes.

9: Entire Facebook world fooled by Rage Against The Machine video? Or is it just us?

We posted this video of Trek’s Cam McCaul and Rage Against The Machine bassist Tim Commerford earlier this week. But is it really Commerford riding for his tricks or have our Facebook fans been fooled…? We’ll let you make your minds up on that one.
