Episode 3 of the Real Life drama series straight out of Queenstown, NZ
Words and Video: Russ Paver
As winter is well and truly setting in over the Northern Hemisphere it is getting hotter, dustier and looser over in NZ! There is a new addition to the house of the notorious Sophie Tyas, who is keeping her brother Ben company over the Christmas period.
Also, Stouty is now back in action throwing accidental no hander landers whilst clipped in, after being out for 6 weeks with a broken hand, unfortunately Weeding is still broken.
This episode see’s the last few days shredding the dry, dusty and blown out skyline gondola before they close for the Christmas period, which if anything was a nice change! Makes all the bike park whores (including ourselves) look at all the other amazing trails that this area has to offer!
Our Queenstown Christmas day was spent doing the annual 4am climb up Ben Lomond, to meet up with 30 other Q-town mountain bikers. After a 3 hour push to the Saddle (only the elite few made it too the peak) we then watched the sunrise and made the epic 40min descent and just in time for a dip in the lake! The rest of the day was spent eating too much and drinking too much and the occasional lake jump!
With Queenstown New Years being massive and the Queenstown national round looming our house is slowly turning into a refugee camp with tents popping up all over the garden and ten people sleeping in the lounge. So for the next episode will bring more of the amazing riding Central Otago has to offer outside of the bike park and some coverage from the Queenstown Nats!
And also a thankyou to the Queenstown mountain bike club, the alliance and all the local trail diggers that make the network of trails around Queenstown so amazing!
Until next time…
