Our new weekly/whenever look at the Queenstown/New Zealand summer scene through the eyes of the Magnificent Seven.
Remember Mid Week NZ? Well this is an off shoot, Wakatipu Shore, brought to to you live from a house in Queenstown by the Magnificent Seven.
Here’s Episode one written by Adrian Loo:
This summer a group of dirty mountain bikers from around New Zealand and Europe have met in Queenstown to reunite for an epic summer. We have found ourselves in a 4 bedroom house packed full of 7 keen as mountain bikers and generally full of uninvited guests every weekend. From racers to slopers, dirt jumpers and everything in between. If not out riding you’ll find us at the lake, digging tracks, epic rally missions or otp (on the piss).
We thought it would be cool to share our summer with the world and let you all see how sick a Kiwi summer is. The flat will bring you ‘everycoupleyofweekly’ write ups, basically if there is something cool happening or a big event, someone from the flat will bring you the latest. We have figured that you would enjoy it better this way, rather than us talking crap about too much non bike related activities. We mainly ride in and around Queenstown and the lower south, along with traveling the NZ Nationals and major dirt jump/ slope style events.
Here are the slightly deranged rowdy group occupying this flat and bringing you the latest news in New Zealand. Welcome to the Wakatipu Shore!
Adrian Loo (Andre)
Convicted Horn dog who is part Invercargill bogan, part genius. Full of ideas weather it’s a shitty money making scam or sweet as riding adventure. He spent the past winter travelling the world, riding bikes and getting rowdy. A southland bred meat slinger who is always cracking up at something and having a good time. Watering the plants at mitre10 isn’t too much hard work so always finds energy to ride or go for a rally in the mighty Starlett.
Russ Paver (Pavedog)
A misplaced Egyptian prince that is the only man to be able to style his hair with a JD and coke in each hand. UK racer and loose cannon Pavedog is a notorious video bandit with sneaky slow mows and scrub whips appearing all over the web. A recent convert to riding after taking a few years off to dedicate his life to the 2007 junior master chef, where he finished a disappointed 2nd.
Robbie Howie (Robbie)
A snow homie that has converted to biking for the summer, unless he scores a job in Japan (mental for the oriental). Robbie is a part time, semi pro coffee barrister/barista whose always keen to ride and never scared to huck some booters (or avoid the washing up). One half of the notorious dishes bandits and part time toothbrush thief of the flat. Currently engaged to Kathryn Burns; the elusive sister of MattyB.
Ben Tyas
A jaffa from Auckland who has figured he would have more fun down here in the slightly smaller metropolitan that is Queenstown. Ben spent the winter riding in Whistler, he has found himself filling that gap in his life with all the riding and partying that Queenstown has to offer. Self appointed as Queenstown’s best Night time lollypop man. If he’s not found chilling on the couch, being the other half of the notorious dishes banditos or being a munter with the flaties, he’ll be pounding out the laps on his trusty (warrantied) GT.
Andrew Weethling (man gold)
The man dime of the house whose ex ‘boy band’ straightened hair can charm the back legs off a donkey (or Mexican virgin). When not busy straightening his hair he keeps himself busy getting wild or pulling drifts on his downhill bike. He is the fastest ice cream scooper and top fudge packer at the local chocolate parlour, and has plenty of time to get out riding.
Jon Stout
A Scottish strongman, who loves to pay out the English or anything “paver”. After a broken hand 2 days into the trip he spends his time discussing giant space elevators and discovering the world’s largest foam pits. A widely experienced cock blocker, who sports a riding style similar to a Koala hanging off a tree.
Conor Macfarlane (C mac)
The dad of the house who’s Jewish mindset helps keep the bills down. One of NZ’s top slopestyle riders and a general nice guy. Conor loves riding all bikes, from riding the George Rd dirt jumps to hucking his meat down skyline DH tracks. He spent our winter riding and competing throughout the States and Canada. But get a couple of drinks in him and he transforms into a mad dog. A slippery gypsy who causes more havoc after 10pm on a Saturday than anyone else does all week.
That’s all of us! As well of the write-ups we thought we would make a couple of webisodes throughout the summer as well. Here is a little quick teaser on what we have already been up to here and what’s to come.
