Last week we uncovered video footage of Ryder Hesjedal crashing in the Vuelta a España, and what his bike did immediately after he crashed made us ask the question “Is this video proof that roadies really are the biggest cheating bastards ever?“. It has to be said that we received a fair old bit of stick from the road bike community following that post, but we as mountain bikers felt safe sat up high on our moral horse. Unfortunately though this weekend new evidence has come to light that firmly points the cheating finger back at us, and the incident in question took place at the very highest level, the World Championships.
You can watch the latest evidence in the video below, but basically Neko Mulally set off out of the start gate on his run and managed to snap his chain on pretty much his first pedal stroke. Under any normal circumstances that would be game over, and even the commentators had already written him off, but then somehow he managed to be the fastest at the first split, and even more incredibly he managed to eventually cross the finish line in the lead! In the end, despite many trying, only three riders managed to better Neko’s time, meaning he came 4th at a World Championship cycling event despite not having a chain on his bike! Come on, you’ve got to admit that sounds impossible. Watch the video evidence for yourself to try and work out exactly how he managed it…
What do you lot reckon? Did he have some kind of electric hub motor similar to what people suspected Ryder Hesjedal had on his bike? I mean it certainly can’t have been a motor in the cranks because he didn’t have a chain! Or, did he simply put down one of the most impressive DH race runs of all time? We certainly think so.
Normally only the victors go down in history, but much like when Sam Hill came 3rd back in 2007 in Champery, we think this run of Neko’s will also be remembered for a long time to come.
