All the action from the final round of the Trek Gravity Enduro at Carrick Mountain, County Wicklow.
The Trek Gravity Enduro Ireland series wrapped up in Carrick Mountain in County Wicklow last weekend. A sold out field of 300 competitors were greeted by blazing sun shine and dusty trails, making up for the some what water logged previous rounds. It’s fair to say that the trails swung in the favour of the more gravity inclined riders, with very little pedalling on the scarily fast descents. Stunning views over the Irish Sea and fun trails through giant eucalyptus trees made this event truly unique and not to be missed.
There were many overall placings yet to be decided coming into the final round, keeping the pressure on right down to the final stage. After 5 rounds and 25 stages in total, only a couple of seconds separated the riders across many categories. Both visiting riders Jess Stone (Trek Unior Tools) and Joe Barnes (Mtbcut Orange Bikes) took commanding wins on the day. And it was Joe Barnes who took the overall series win in the Pro Men’s Category with Greg Callaghan (Pivot OC Tuning) runner up and Glyn O’Brien (Nukeproof) in third spot. The Pro Women’s category was an Irish affair with Rose Griffen (IMBRC) on the top step with Meave Baxter (OC Tuning) and Silvia Gallagher (Bespoke Cycles) in second and third respectively.
It was smiles all round as riders crossed the line for the final time this year, receiving their printed stage times and a custom Gravity Enduro beer before they could even catch their breath. With no transition times at the Irish Gravity Enduro Series it really is geared up to suit most people, a lot more than just a race to be the fastest, some ride to be challenged, some just to compete the event, but most people take part to have a fun time with their friends on bikes.
