If you’re wondering what the hell the Spirit of Enduro World Champs is, it’s the annual enduro race put on by the legendary Dudes of Hazzard, and it took place earlier this month. Before we get onto the stunning film that Gordon MacIntosh has put together from the race, we have to remind you of what must be the greatest race promotion video ever made…
Enough of the Dudes’ shenanigans though, over to Gordon for his intro to the film that fittingly really does sum up the spirit of enduro…
Kinlochleven is an old industrial village nestling in the scenic glens of the west Highlands of Scotland. The rusting-remains of industrial machinery now stand like silent guards in a valley where an aluminium smelter once was the heart. Coupled with the strong presence of an old hydro-electric plant, the setting proved to be unique and full of character … perfect for a mountain bike race to take place! (It was also the setting for a segment featured in Danny MacAskill’s 2010 film “Way Back Home”).
Local riders, known as The Dudes of Hazzard, teamed up with No Fuss Events to host the two-day Endurance event called: ‘The Spirit of Enduro World Champs’. The event name pretty much summed up what The Dude’s are all about; not taking themselves too serious, out for the love of biking, and sharing a weekend of shredding with other like-minded enthusiasts! And, why wouldn’t you want to partake in the event after the boys posted their unique promotional video for the race.
There were three stages to attack; each individual stage was timed from start to finish. Travelling from one stage to the next was not timed. Plenty of mud, slippery rocks, and tree roots to conquer as quickly as possible: not for the faint hearted by any means!
I hope you enjoy my wee edit highlighting parts of the Sunday race day…
