“Well I feel a bit of an idiot for having crashed and hurt myself at the start of the season, and on such a lame crash. And I’m sort of making a big deal out of it, when it’s not half as bad as some
peoples misfortunes. But, I broke it in 5 places, an Intra Articular Distal Ulna fracture, two breaks across radius and ulna and three down from the radius break to the end of the bone. I had wires put in in Vigo, they were promptly removed from my horrifiedlooking surgeon. He waited a week for the swelling to go down then cut me open and put in a plate to mend me.
The reason it will take a while to heal is the three cracks extend into the joint, making the possibility of an uneven joint surface high, which means it will move like Affy’s (Dan Atherton) wheelbarrow covered in dirt and cement with a puncture and one handle. But, I had the cast off today, two weeks since it happened, and it feels OK, not too painful but pretty stiff and scary looking. I’m not supposed to move it to much for another month because the ulna is not plated so it still has to heal on its own. I’m pretty hopeful to be back for Fort William…easy peasy.”
