A heads up for round 2 of the Schwalbe Euro 4x in Leibstadt, Switzerland.
Sunday August 5th, the Schwalbe Euro 4X Series will roar back into action at the Leibstadt 4X track inSwitzerland. This awesome track in the centre of Leibstadt, will attract huge crowds and European top 4X riders who are chasing the 2012 Schwalbe Euro 4X Series crown.
After round 1, Tomas Slavik is leading the points after he took victory at Winterberg inGermany. Slavik has been the major force in 4X in 2012 taking more wins than anyone else so far this year and winning the 4X ProTour overall title. With the points lead in the Schwalbe Euro 4X Series, he will come into Leibstadt as the favourite for the win. At round 1 Michael Mechura, Scott Beaumont and Daniel Prijkel rounded out the top 4 and they will be looking to close the gap on Slavik with great results in Leibstadt.
The big news from round 1 was Joost Wichman’s crash in the quarter finals. As always Joost was flying and looking like he would challenge Slavik but his crash has left him low on points after round 1 and he will be looking to get back on terms in Leibstadt.
World Champion, Michal Prokop, Jakub Riha, Felix Beckeman, Michal Marossi, and the rest ofEurope’s top4X riders will be battling for the win.
Undoubtably Katy Curd will go into this race as the favourite in the women’s race but Swiss rider Lucia Oetjens will have the home crowd advantage and will be looking for the win. World Champion Anneke Beerten may be there, Steffi Marth and hopefully Celine Gros will return from injury to all challenge for the win.
As this race is just 4 weeks before the World Championships, it will be the best gauge to see who is going to be the favourite for the rainbow jersey in Leogang.
The Schwalbe Euro 4X Series has been running for 2 years now and provides an ideal opportunity for National level 4X riders in Europe to step up a notch and race against some ofEurope’s best 4X riders without the intensity and pressure of a 4X ProTour race.
