Here’s the spread from the mag and the shot from Scott’s mate Ross.
Dear Dirt,
WE’RE IN DIRT! I believe those were the words I shouted to my girlfriend when I opened my new copy of dirtmag at dinner time. Check it out page 22/23, the hip jump at Fort Bill. I’m in the light blue T-shirt filming the attached video and my girlfriend in the red hoodie and Fort Bill Buff. What a cool moment that was, even cooler to see the print in dirt. Maybe I’m getting a bit sentimental, but there was something in the air. I knew something cool was gonna happen, here’s the low down.
It was open practice on the Sunday. I was guiding my friends round the hill who had never been to a World Cup yet and we crossed the boardwalk to get some pictures of the riders getting air off the hip jump before getting the gondola up the hill for the race runs. We weren’t there long and I spotted Sven Martin, Clay Porter an numerous others intent on giving me lens envy as I stood there with my compact digital camera. Kovarik, Minnaar, Hannah were just a few who had been through. Impressive, but not a patch on what was about to come. A gondola car went overhead and a bang on the window could be heard. Hill and Brendog were waving at Porter, it was a signal! Porter gets on the radio to tell others that Hill an Brendog were on the hill, and something special was about to happen. 10-15 minute wait and the tension built. Heard a message on Porter’s radio to say they were heading down…Hill flung it over the jump! Practically in reverse. I got it on video and my mate Ross got the pictures, which I must say rival Mr Martin’s effort! Anyway, long story short. I loved it and it brings a smile to my face every time I see it. The picture is my laptop screen saver and the video is sick! The audio come courtesy of my girlfriend. A converted Hill fan after that. The man is a God on a bike. I’m just glad I was there to see it live.
Cheers, Scott.
