Dirt columist Seb Kemp hates being idle when there is so much to do. So rather than sit on his sofa playing X-Box he’s organised a weeks worth of gravity events in Queenstown, New Zealand starting on Monday 9th February.

This is what he told me:

I decided quite last minute to put together a week of events in Queenstown NZ. Seeing as though we have two of the biggest races in NZ happening one week apart here in Queenstown (nZONE, BRAKEBURNER 6HR SUPER D AND A ROUND OF THE NATIONAL SERIES). I figured there may be a lot of people in town for the events, roadtripping or the locals who wanna rip and shred.

The week begins with a rally style multi stage timed DH format “race”, then a battle of the fastest to be crowned King of Skyliner for the second year, then a jump jam at the amazing Gorge Road trails, then the DAS UBER D makes a return (expect for tracks, more surprises and more beer!), then the week finishes on a relaxed bbq, beer and expression session at the pump track (categories include fastest lap, endure lap king, freestyle tranny pumper, pursuit and last man standing) on the evening before the big DH race (Nationals). There may even be a longest skid comp last minute scheduled sometime in the week due to popular demand.

All events are brought to you in the spirit of the League of Gentlemen. i.e., golden memories over silverware, drinking over competitiveness, cheaters are losers.
All the events are practically free and the nominal donation of $2 goes to the Queenstown MTB club to maintain, upgrade and increase the world class mountain biking facilities we have here in Queenstown NZ. I myself am doing this entirely voluntarily simply because I love having fun on my bike with other bikers. These events are designed to maximise fun, bring people together and celebrate what wonderful and diverse riding facilities we have here in Queenstown, NZ.

mon 9th feb – REALLY RAILING RALLY RACE (the LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN bring you the mega format for gravity slaves. five timed short DH stages. go slow on the uphills and then thrash it down the timed DH sections. Seven Mile “Hub” at 7pm. Bring $2, your won timing device, a pen. BYO Beers)

tues 10th feb – VERTIGO BIKES SKYLINE PRO INVITATIONAL (riders battle it out for the money and title as the fastest rider down the Vertigo DH trail in Queenstown. interested riders please email [email protected]) INSERT VERTIGO LOGO!!!

wed 11th feb – REVOLVER GORGE ROAD JUMP JAM (jam format down at the newly revamped Gorge Road trails. music, mc, sausage sizzle courtesy of REVOLVER BAR. jam starts at 3pm) insert revolver logo!!!

thurs 12th feb – DAS UBER D (the uber D format returns. the LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN and REVOLVER BAR bring you the DH to whippet all DH. riders meet at 7pm at the heli pad at top of skyline and finish at REVOLVER BAR!!! remember to bring $2 dollar and your own timing device)

fri 13th feb – PUMP TRACK PARTY (lets party it up whilst we pump some trannies ON THE FRIDAY THE 13TH. BBQ, Beers, and pump track challenges and the Gorge Road Kidney Pump track from 630pm.)
