Nukeproof Rook Prototype Slopestyle Frame

The whole frame will be revealed at Sea Otter later this week, but in the meantime we have a rather unique head tube to look at…

Hydraulic gyro’s (fancy gubbins that let you spin your bars as much as you want without having to worry about your hoses) are nothing new, but the idea of integrating one into a frame is. Why would you want to integrate one? Well, the main problem with hydraulic gyro’s is that they add a fair old bit to your stack height. Not ideal, and not very pretty either. This solution on the other hand keeps things looking ultra clean and has a stack height of just 10mm. And that includes the headset cup too. A definite step in the right direction if bar spins are your thing.
As for the rest of the frame, details are still a bit thin on the ground until it is officially launched on Thursday, but Nukeproof did have this to say about it…

“Built in collaboration with newly signed slopestyle rider Jack Fogelquist, the Rook has a low, mildly progressive leverage rate designed to give a stiff platform for dirt jumping or slopestyle when used with 150+ PSI. Additionally, due to the low leverage rate, the feel of the ride is highly tunable by altering the compression damping of the shock. Switching the shock to its minimum compression position and running below 150PSI provides a supple, active suspension feel for freeride or trail use.
The geometry of the Rook is optimised for a 110mm travel fork giving a 13” BB height and 69 degree head angle. Running the frame with a 160mm fork will raise the BB to 13.75” and slacken the head angle to a trail taming 66 degrees. Chainstays are kept short for pumping tight bowls and manualling.”

What does that mean in simple speak? Well it sounds like they’re touting this as a frame that has more versatility than the name tag suggests, and going by some of the other ‘slopestyle’ labelled frames that we’ve tested they could well be right. How much travel has it got? Your guess is as good as ours, but if it turns out to be a great trail ripper we won’t be too surprised.
