New Quay Urban Downhill 2013

The New Quay Urban Downhill is back again for it’s third year. Promising to be bigger and better than before, it’s certainly built up a reputation for being a great way to blow off steam at the end of race season. Organised by MIJ downhill and Si ‘The Pirate’ Williams, it’s a good excuse to meet up with friends, party and then race before winter sets in.

Coming to the streets of West Wales on the 2nd -3rd of November, it’s set to be a good one. Check out the video of last years event to see what’s in store.

Here’s what Simon Williams, event organiser had to say about this years event:

This will be the 3rd year for this annual event held here in the fishing village of New Quay. It is a unique event in the way that it is half on and half off the roads ,with a mix of downhill as we know it and fast tarmac down small lanes ,so tyre choice will be interesting! The Start is high above the town looking out across Cardigan bay with Snowdonia beyond . There are not many start gates with a view like this one! The top section is the ‘off road’ bit of the route with drops and fast berms leading to step ups and tables.

The riders will then hit the small lanes and tiny streets of the town. Speeds will increase to an eye watering level as you wind your way through the route , jumping a few tables, kickers and a tricky set of steps along the way. The finish comes after a final tabletop and a spectacular end above the Harbour .

The town of New Quay, famous for Dylan Thomas and the Bottlenose Dolphins has some lovely eating houses and pubs to keep you all happy .There will be a spectacular Firework show on the Saturday evening followed by live music and ‘Pre Race’ party [Cedric Style!] around the pubs. A real festival atmosphere and great time for all .

This event is the season ender for MIJ Downhill Events, so it’s going to have the usual relaxed feel, but with some blistering hot racing!

Entries open soon, keep an eye on their Facebook for more information.
