National 4X Champs This Weekend

Redhill Extreme is playing host to the country’s fastest 4X racers as they battle it out in both the National 4X Champs and NPS round five this weekend. The weather forecast looks perfect, the rider list is packed with talent and the track is possibly the best in the country, so get yourself down there, it’s going to be epic!

The British National 4X Championships take place this weekend at Redhill Extreme near Gloucester on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean.

The British 4X series has had it best year ever in numbers of riders and the depth of riders now racing the series. 4X racing can be one of the most exciting forms of mountain bike racing and this year is really has developed into the most exciting year ever.

The Redhill track is a purpose built with multi lines designed the riders, they have been making improvements all summer to this track as it winds down from the top of a steep hill into a massive big table top finish some 300mtres below.

The start list is full of the best 4X racers in the country.

Top Contenders for the Senior title have to be Scott Beaumont, defending champion from last year. Then we have some new starts of British 4X racing coming through to upset a few, Will Evans, Lewis Lacey & Duncan Ferris have been ripping up the world cups. Kieron Mcavoy, Pat Campbell-Jenner and Tom Dowie, could be in with a good chance of the podium. With this being National Champs all Elite & Senior riders race together so top seniors so far this year include Dale Russell, Chris Cumming, Philip Evans & Aj Boardman all wanting to prove themselves fast enough of getting a medal. It’s going to be a hot & exciting race for the Gold Medal and the Prestigious National Championships Jersey.

The Junior category is for the up and coming riders, this class is a hot bed of talent and seeing one of the most close fought series ever. The standard of riding has really improved over the last few years. Last years Youth National Champion Tom Knight is still on his winning ways now he’s moved up to Junior with Max Lenthall, Pete Warner, Mike Yard, Scott Roberts & Jake Ward will all want to take the Junior title in 2009.

Timed Seeding runs for Senior only 3.00pm
Racing Starts at 3.30pm

The venue is really easy to get on the A4151 just off the main A48 between Gloucester and Chepstow. Loads of free parking and the whole track is wide open allowing full view of the track start to finish. Trade Stands and Catering on site, make a weekend of it with a huge camping field right next to the track.

Saturday is round 5 of the National 4X Series, you can still enter for the race either on line at www.nps4x.com or turn up on the day.
