Forget fixing your bike using standard means and replacement parts, this is far more interesting. Who would have thought you could use a shoe as a saddle or a tooth brush as a chain device? Since the first post about Bike Bodging we have had some amazing ideas land on the Dirt inbox tray, the Best, Worst and Ugliest were posted last week.

This is one of the first and most inspired bodges I have seen in ages. We are all fans of the clutch mech here at Dirt and the simplicity it brings to a single ring setup. The only thing is that this clever technology costs money, and that is something not everyone can wang on a new mech. So what’s the answer? Pulling apart a radio control car, thats the answer! A nice little radio controlled car shock fitted to the rear mech with carefully placed cable ties allowing multi directional pivoting. I can run granny ring and 9th gear over bumpy schizzle and it’s as quiet as a single speed ninja!

If you thought that one was clever then this one surely holds the prize for most zip ties ever on a handlebar. Blair sent this gem in after his lever snapped just before a final race run. Most of us would think that a broken lever mount would be game over but not Blair. Using what looks like every zip tie he could find the lever was reinstated and worked for the race run, so there you have it, a zip tie (or 7) fixes all!

Lastly for this week’s instalment of Bodge, Hack Tweak is a stunner of a solution for forgetting something. I have witnessed folk forgetting axles and even the odd wheel before, that sinking feeling we have all felt when you realise you have left your Tracker bar on the kitchen table or your goggles in the bread bin. Sent in/shamed/championed by his mate Justin Bridgett, Michael Yule forgot his saddle and post arriving to go riding. No problem though, just gaffer a shoe in it’s place!

SDG may have spent ages developing their fancy saddle with bum grippers on but this is surely where the grip is really at.
