Mont Sainte Anne World Cup: The build up

Round 4 of the UCI World Cup takes place at Mont Sainte Anne just outside Quebec, Canada this weekend. Dirt will be there in force with the full compliment of top flight journalists giving you the low down on whats going on before, during and after the race. So stay tuned for the daily updates.

We’ve just checked the weather forecast which stated thunderstorms and showers for the week, lovely.

In some other news Vincent Van Flugal and myself are in Vancouver at the moment, flying out to Mont Saint Anne tomorrow.

To pass the time today we came up with two options:

The first was my idea to rent some bikes and pedal to the USA (which is only 15 miles away) then sneak over the border, take some photos the pedal back.

Option two was Van Flugals idea to rent some bikes and cycle to the top of the highest peak around which is Grouse Mountain.

After a heated argument about the possibility of getting arrested trying to sneak into the US we headed up to Grouse Mountain.

The idea was to score some really cheap unsuitable bikes, these came close but wouldn’t get us very far.

After walking around for two hours we managed to hire a pair of “Brodie” bikes. A 75 degree head angle, cable brakes and pogo front suspension seemed perfect for an assault on a 4000 ft mountain.

Van Flugal was keen on scooting the bikes down the PinkStar Fish trail, but that would have ended in two snapped frames.

Instead we ploughed on to the top of Grouse Mountain, where believe it or not there is still snow on the ground.

The 45 minute ride down from here on the “Brodie” was one of the sketchiest rides I’ve ever done.

Stay tuned for the World Cup build up where no one will be riding a “Brodie”.
