Irish Downhill race news

My Irish news usually consists of a comedy video that Dublin snapper Victor Lucas sends in. So it’s good to have some proper Irish downhill race news for a change.

Round 4 of the Irish winter league takes place on Sunday 22nd of March, at the Sugarloaf Mountain, Fitzsimons Park, Kimacanogue Co Wicklow. The Sugarloaf is a major land mark in the Dublin/Wicklow area and can be seen from all over, so SatNav shouldn’t be an issue.

Track Description
The track rides very fast and consists of lots of corners on steep terrain, some flat out single track, natural rock gardens and some fun jumps. Everything is rollable and quite straight forward keeping in the winter league tradition and can be ridden on any kind of mountain bike.

Parking
The local Gaa club have kindly granted us permission to use there grounds and club house facilities so there is ample parking available for the day. We would ask for your co-operation with the parking marshalls in order to keep things running smoothly.
There is a short drive on a very narrow road before you get to the Gaa club, so we would ask people to please respect the locals if and when you meet them on the road.

For anyone planning to get some sneaky practice between now and then to please park responsibly as parking is a little tight outside of the grounds .

Directions
Coming from the North
Take the exit off the M1 for the M50 just after the airport, continue down the M50 straight all of the way until you merge onto the N11. Continue on further past all of the Bray exits and Enniskerry exits. Shortly after these you will come to Kilmacanogue where there is a large petrol station on your left. Take the slip road to the left immediately after the petrol station and at the roundabout turn right crossing back over the N11. Keep right and you are now facing back the way you came. Continue on a little further and you will see a minor road on your left. Take this turn then the road forks almost immediately. Keep right and continue straight on until you come to the Gaa grounds.

Coming from Limerick direction you will come in the naas road as you approach the Red Cow spagetti junction follow the signs for the M50 southbound and then follow the directions above.

Coming from the Wicklow direction. Pass through Glen of the Downs and by the Glenview hotel will be on your left. Shortly afterwards you will come into Kilmacanogue, take the slip road to your left and continue on straight through the round about at the top of the slip road. Continue on a little further and you will see a minor road to your left take this turn and then an immediate right and continue straight on until you come to the Gaa grounds.
