Say No to Curling and Yes to Pumptracks

Chris Ball just sent this info over about funding for a pumptrack in Cardona, Peebles. It  looks like it’s a direct shootout between the pumper and a curling project. (Is curling the ice thing with the big stones?)

I think every town, village and hamlet needs a pumptrack, lets leave the curling to the Scandinavians.

The vote will take place on one day, Tuesday  24th November from 9am to midnight, you can only vote on that day. The voting phone number will be displayed on that day.

I’ll post up a reminder on the day itself.

Here’s the story:

The pump track in Cardrona village has got even closer to securing funding from The Peoples Millions – a joint initiative between the National Lottery and ITV. There’s been some great volunteer work put in over the past few months and it could be a great addition to the Tweed Valley mountain bike facilities. The only issue is that to win the vote we need mountain bikers to act in support.

ITV1 Border will produce a short 2 minute film to be shown on the Evening News programme on Tues 24th November.

The pump track will be going head to head against the Border Curling Development Club in a vote off. The project with the highest number of telephone votes will get the funding it is looking for.

Voting can take place any time during the day from 9am until 12 midnight (on the 24th November). The number to ring to vote will only be released on the day. Each supporter can vote 10 times at a cost of 10p per call so for £1, you can help us get the most votes, secure the funding to enable us to build the track Jan/Feb 2010.

The track will be open for everyone to benefit but we need your support to win.

There are a number of ways in which supporters can keep in touch with developments in the build up to the 24th.

They can go to the Peoples Millions website and view the project at http://www.peoplesmillions.org.uk/regions/border/projects/cardrona-pump-n-jump-track

They can go to our page on Facebook and become a fan.  That way, we can easily broadcast the number to vote on 24th Nov when it becomes available.
