Part three of our Peruvian Megavalanche story. Part one here. Part two here.
Local workshy builder Jonny The Hose is out in Cusco, Peru having just raced the Megavalanche.
News is as thin as the mountain air, but we gather that after qualifying on row B our man caught the fever. He was up till 5.00am the night before the race blowing the pan pipes and halucinating, no change there then, he does that every weekend in Monmouth.
Chris Van Dine avoided the mountain fever and the pan pipes so took the win.

3:Yannik Wende from La Paz, Bolivia
I’m still not convinced Jonny Boy when to Peru, this looks more like Merthyr Tydfil in Wales.
First corner action at Merthyr.
Probably a bit stepper than it looks here, judging by the mess some riders are making of it.
I think this photo must be “shopped” because it is a well know fact round our way that along with Jonesy, Jonny Boy doesn’t get his wheels off the ground
If you’ve ridden the Mega in France you’ll probably have heard (herd) of the guy who races in a cow outfit. Here he is doing the udder race in Peru.
Err…anybody know who won? When you’re high on cocoa leaves this looks in focus.
Update: News just in,
No 1 Team Cannondale rider Chris Van Dine – Pan American Champ from the USA
No 2 Diego Sarmiento from Lima Peru
No 3 Yannik Wende from La Paz Bolivia
“Fair play, that is a truely amazing race. The course is sensational with no let up on the arms bar a couple of road sections.
The start was up with the gods at 4600m which is a height we have no business being at. As with all Megavalanches it is the mass start format which is a great way to race but the crazy thing about this one is that once you survive the mud, the rocks, the altitude, the other combatants and you explode into the finish area, you are turned round and sent straight back to the top to do it all again.
Two Megas back to back! Crazy, but brilliant.”
Jonny The Hose.
