Worst Bodge vs Best Hack

Following on from a conversation sparked by this amazing bike, currently available on Ebay (many thanks to Luke Heliwell for the spot) we started chatting about the best bike bodges.

This beauty is described as ‘a bit special’. Its a cut and shut model, formed from the back end of a 2001 Foes DHS welded “BY A GRADE 2 AIRCRAFT WELDER AND STRENGTHENED INTERNALLY” to the front end of a 2012 Carrera. The Reason for sale? “To finance a kitchen aid for the wife”

This could be yours! Its not a bad bead to be fair.

Also currently for sale are a pair of “Alpinestars Al mega EOS mountain bike E stay” frames. They are listed as having cracks but no mention is made of the quality of the welding repairs.

Tweaks & Hacks

At the other end of the spectrum are those little factory tweaks or hacks that pro mechanics have in abundance.

Heres one from Tracy Moseley’s Enduro bike. Her mechanic Ray Waxham has this very neat cable management solution. A cable tie and some plastic tube neaten everything up nicely. I know what I’m doing to my bike next time I have a fettle.

Then you could go to the absolute extreme. Like Trek with their bike warming booth to ensure the bike is warmed up just like the rider.
