July 7-11 marks the first edition of Åre Bike Festival, a five day celebration of riding in Åre, Sweden (pronounced ore-eh for all you non-Swedish speakers out there). Home to northern Europe’s biggest bike park, with more than 30 trails spreading from epic singletracks in an alpine environment to flowy, machined trails in the lower trees.
Åre Bike Festival takes place at a magical time of the year when the sun hardly sets at night and the trails are in perfect condition. The event is hosted by the local bike club Åre Bergscyklister, organizer of the 1999 UCI mountain bike world championships as well as local trail builders and avid riders of all bike disciplines.
Åre lacked a big freeride event so we figured we’d give it a shot and create a grassrootsy event with all the things we love about this place tucked into the package. Basically, we want more people to come to Åre and share the fun we have living and riding every day here, says Tobias Liljeroth from Åre Bergscyklister.
The schedule for the week is packed with competitions, freeride camps, clinics, movie shows, parties and, most important, great riding in one of Europe’s premier bike parks.
