Ben Baker Blasts Bristol DMR Bike’s Pump track race

Race report from the Brizzle Pumper Challenge last weekend.

DMR Bikes Pump Track Challenge – Bristol 2011

Ben Baker steals the win right from under the nose of Bernard Kerr in dramatic battle in the final.

The riders turned in big numbers for the race at Bristol, some of this may have something to do with the Wideopen magazine / Monster party after the race and also its great location.

A good crowd of spectators watched during the day with the very popular Lezyne exploder going off between the heats.

The format for racing is straight knock out after a Seeding run it was Quarter & Semi finals and then the top 5 riders from the Rippers, Open, Girls and Pro make it to the Finals.

The Pro race was stacked with riders trying to win the £400 prize money, after the heats it came down the final five with Bernard Kerr setting the fastest times he was looking like a safe bet to repeat the win he took at Leamington Spa in April.

The format for the Pro’s was a rolling start from a one lap warm up that lead straight into the timed lap, James Wilson was first go in the final with having beaten quite a few big names to get his place but it all went wrong crashing over the bars in the 2nd corner!

Olly Wilkins is a master of the pump track and so much style he went fastest with 19.3 but 3 more to go Lewis Lacey was giving pump track racing ago after his recent win in the Cobble Wobble, he can pump and manual like the best of them but with a super fast 17.2 was looking good enough to win.

Next up was Ben Baker he put together a super fast lap really smooth and stopped the clock on 16.2! it was all down to Bernard Kerr with £250 for the win it was going to be an all out flat out lap to beat Baker but Kerr was super smooth and stopped the clock on 16.5 so Baker took his first win!

Ben Baker said “its fantastic such a great way to race with all his mates shouting in the crowd he love it and cannot wait to do the next one at the London Bike Show in January”

Top 3 on the Podium won some great prizes from Lezyne and all the winners won a pair of Teva shoes with the Pro’s sharing £400 in prize money from DMR Bikes.
