Alessia Missiaggia wins junior women’s World Championship

The first race of the weekend is done

Alessia Missiaggia has won the 2016 junior women’s downhill World Championship from Val di Sole.

The young Italian was racing at her first ever World Championships and brought it home by a margin of over 11 seconds. She has already started racing elite World Cups too and picked up a handful of top thirties this year.

American Samantha Kingshill finished second and Flora Lesoin third. France’s Melanie Chappaz was fastest in the first two sectors, but a problem before the line cost her a shot at the title. Britain’s only competitor, Aston Tutt, finished eighth
