The UCI have just announced that 4X is no longer a World Cup event…
There has been a lot of talk going on around and about this for a while now, but just like being dumped, when it actually happens it can be a bit of a surprise (I would imagine)! So the UCI (the international cycling federation) has dropped 4X from the 2012 World Cup series. Oddly there will still be a 4X World Championship race, which seems a little weird. Of course 4X can survive, there is already a strong Euro scene, but what does this mean for all the riders, teams, mechanics, sponsors, etc. Is it a nail in the coffin? Maybe Jared Graves knew something!
PRESS RELEASE
Following the publication of the 2012 Mountain Bike calendar, the UCI confirms that Four-cross events will form part of the programme of the 2012 UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships to be held in Leogang, Austria.
However, due to the high costs of constructing tracks and their impact on the environment, the UCI has decided to withdraw this speciality from the programme of events at UCI Mountain Bike World Cups from next season.
