2012 Fetish Gravity Enduro round 1 Innerleithen results

Full results plus Gravity Enduro organiser Steve Parr explains the timing balls up.

Following on from the massive event that was round 1 of the Fetish Gravity enduro at Innerleithen on 24th 25th March, here is a breakdown of events.

The 1st round sold out weeks before and a total of 300 racers headed towards the daunting hill that is Innerleithen, famed for its racing pedigree and they were not to be disappointed.

We took a huge gamble on the weather being kinder in March than it was in July last year, it has been bone dry in Scotland for the past 3 years in Feb/March, right from the 1st set up day (Wednesday) the sky was a perfect blue.

The stages chosen were to prove a tough challenge for all concerned, the climbs were long and the downs punishing and technical, big thanks must go to Steve Deas of iCycles and Innerleithen MTB for helping us to choose them.

Saturday seeding was won by Jerome Clementz from France, taking a full 6 seconds out of Crawford Carrick Anderson in 2nd, an awesome start to the race.

Sunday morning came and everyone rolled out the finish arena through the checkout point, bit of banter about helmet straps and 29ers was the order of the day.

I have made no attempt to hide the fact that 2012 was going to be tougher than 2011, after a visit to the Italian Super Enduro at Finale in October, this after all is an XC based fitness event, the transition times were trimmed down, this proved to be the undoing of the timing and event.

Riders were not making their allotted start times at stage 3, this then bought into play manual entries and human error, all the raw data is in the system, it just has to be identified and put in the right place, which I am now told is sorted.

It was my fault for trying to push the series to far forward, when the UK may not fully ready for European Enduro, these events are meant to test you physically and mentally, round 2 transitions will be easier.

We now look to the future rounds, round 2 is sold out already, some great weather and greater trails raced.

Thanks must go to Adam of fetish bike Co and Shimano for making the series happen
Hope to see you on a stage in 2012.

Must also wish my co orgainser a speedy recovery after his knee operation, get well Bud
