ORANGE DIRT WORLD TEAM EMERALD ENDURO UPDATE

After the very soggy BDS round at Fort William, the team headed back to the mainland to head down south to County Wicklow for the Enduro World Series round. Being a downhill race team, Enduro was a new leaf for the Orange Dirt boys and the general outlook seemed to revolve around the statement, “Do we have to do all this pedalling?”

Thankfully however Phil and Jacob’s spirits were lifted when they realised how fun, techy and generally rad the Irish trails were on Carrick Mountain. Rocky peaks, loam chutes, a generous helping of roots (thankfully dry) and a dollop of flow and the lads were away, Phil on the Orange Five and Jacob on the Alpine 160.

EWS Raceday – Jacob

Raceday is over for the boys and a great day was had in sunny Ireland. We're still waiting on results, but for now check out Jacob tackling one of the tougher rock sections at the top of stage 3 here at the Enduro World Series.-Dirt Magazine / Orange Mountain Bikes / X-Fusion Shox / Bliss Protection / DT Swiss AG (official) / Schwalbe tires (official) / Bell Bike Helmets / GiroSportDesign / Renthal Cycle Products / Works Components / HT-components / Formula Italy / Gamut USA / Race Face Performance Products / Ripnroll goggles / Slik Graphics / Caldwell Visuals / Nutt Travel

Jacob got on really well with this enduro business, check the scoop from him..

“Practice was real good, had a few offs. Slowly got into it as I progressed through the stages. I thought it was going to be terrible myself but as the day went on, it got a lot better and put a smile on my face. I actually struggled to get round in practice.. I’m not used to this enduro lark! I was just happy to finish on raceday. I ended up 13th overall, with a 3rd on one stage and a 4th on another, so I’m pretty happy with that. They were on stages 6 and 7, which are actually the downhill tracks, which says it all really.. ha!”   – Jacob Dickson

Phil had fun too. Hucks and general larking about as usual, but he got the job done. See what he had to say:

“We’ve just finished here at the EWS and I’m quite happy we have done! Practice was ace, I didn’t really know what to expect here so I just went at ‘er at. Techy, loamy, they’ve pretty much got everything, it’s real cool. Had a good laugh in practice, did 25 mile the first day and 20 the second day, so a lot of miles on a bicycle. A solid 5 hours today on race day too. Tommy C has been quite generous too, he’s give me a cold which helped out a lot today ha ha. Finished up 65th which isn’t too bad I don’t reckon seeing as I was an enduro virgin until now!”  – Phil Atwill

So that’s it for Ireland for now. We’ll be back soon to crack out some banger Irish videos, so keep an eye out for them. Now it’s onto the steeps of Llangollen next weekend to tackle those infamous woods and hopefully grab a few good results along the way, too.

Peace out from the Orange Dirt boys and we’ll see you there!
