Today was my 16th day in the bike park this season. I’ve done 103 laps. The dirt has been amazing for almost every one of them I think. The kind of dirt that makes you feel like a hero when you lean the bike over. The damp, dark, tacky dirt, that I crave. And midweek, no one is here. Another thing that isn’t here, is summer. Its been raining a lot. It was only 3 degrees the other night and it snowed at the top of the mountain. As long as the bike park is open, it feels like summer to me. The trail crew is really small this year but they’ve been doing a good job building and maintaining the trails. The popularity of pumptracks has made its way to Whistler finally. There are 2 going in this weekend. Another one that was started last year is growing and has a regular crew of riders. I rode it for the first time ever this week and was thoroughly impressed and physically destroyed. I wish it was in my yard and not way far away in the woods of magical dirt land. Kenny and I went filming a few weeks ago in Pemberton with Jon Schramm. It made me feel like I was fast. Schramm has a good eye for shooting and we got some awesome shots. It was amazing watching the footage after on his big TV and huge sound system. He shot it all in HD and I was shocked by how good it looked. Hopefully I’ll be able to post the vid soon. Next wednesday is the beginning of the Phad Wednesday DH race series in the park. 360 people showed up for the last xc race and I’m sure there will be over 200 for the DH next week. A full report will follow. Heres some pics of stuff that’s cool.
