Marin launches the Wolf Ridge enduro bike

Look familiar?

Marin has today launched its new enduro bike – The Wolf Ridge. You may remember the big swing arms of Marin Wolf Ridges of days gone by, well that’s been (sort of) retained, but modernised. If you think the bike looks familiar, that’s because it shares the R3act 2 Play kinematic of the Polygon Square One that was released only last week.

Having ridden the Naild system we can vouch for its effectiveness, especially in terms of pedalling efficiency and downhill trucking. They’re also super-easy to get a good baseline set up for climbing and descending without reverting to a lock out switch. More than anything, it’s always exciting to see something new on the scene (even if the bikes themselves may not be the prettiest things out there).

The system uses a large slider and a cross link that is claimed to equalise the forces on the bike and therefore increase traction while reducing the responsibility of the shock. There are a few differences between the Marin and the Polygon though.

Firstly the Marin is a 160mm 29er. Decreasing the travel and increasing the wheel radius should only exaggerate the already impressive ground covering ability of the React system. This looks to be a keener, racier machine than the tank-like Polygon.

The full-carbon fibre frame may look similar to the Polygon but there are differences here too. The bottom bracket (that was unusually high on the Polygon) is down to 336mm on the Marin. It also has a slightly steeper head angle at 66.5°, although this is fairly par for the course for a long travel 29er.

Sticking on geometry, the raised stay has allowed Marin to overlap the chainring and the wheel to create super-short chainstays of 435mm, just 7mm longer than the trend-setting Pivot Switchblade. The stay does make the frame 1x only though.

Matt VanEnkevort, CEO of Marin Bikes, said: “I’ve been riding mountain bikes since my first rigid bike in 1983, while the folks at Naild have been in the sport since before aluminum became a frame choice. Those of us that have been around this long have watched the evolution from rigid, to front suspension, to full suspension. If you could have more travel, without a lot of extra weight, or negative pedaling effect, why wouldn’t you? Marin and Naild have combined forces, so that you can have it all – without tricky damping, lockout levers and such. All it takes is superior kinematics and vision. I believe the Naild system will forever change the way we look at travel, and the Wolf Ridge is about to become your new favourite bike.”

The Wolf Ridge will come in two models available in summer:

Wolf Ridge Pro

  • SRAM XX-1 Eagle drivetrain
  • Fox 36 Performance Elite & Float X2 suspension
  •  E*thirteen TRS Race Carbon wheelset
  •  RRP £7750

Wolf Ridge 9

  • SRAM X0-1 Eagle drivetrain
  • RockShox Lyric RCT3 & Monarch Debonair R suspension
  • Stan’s NoTubes Flow MK3 wheelset
  • RRP £5750

The Wolf Ridge will be piloted by the UK Marin Enduro Team at domestic and Enduro World Series Rounds. The team comprises of Rob Williams, Leigh Johnson, Nikki Whiles, Chris Keeble Smith and Martha Gill.
