Five 26 inch trail mountain bikes you can still buy

Small-wheeled trail chompers

Go to any of the big online bike shops now and the majority of 26 inch bikes you’ll see are either designed for slopestyle or kids. If you want a grater selection of 26 inch bikes there are second hand markets, but if you’re after a new 26 inch trail mountain bike your options are a bit more limited.

Here are five options of 26 inch trail mountain bikes you can still buy:

Commencal Meta SL 3 26

We’re currently on the V4.2 of the Meta dynasty but Commencal still has some of the older models available to buy. The SL 3 26 is the only one left with 26 inch wheels, it’s also only available in medium. The bike is currently 50 per cent off though and comes in at around £1,200, which definitely makes up for the lack of choice.

Cotic BFe 26

Nicknamed Fast Freddie, this is a hardtail designed for hard riding. Dirt jumps, 4x or general trail ragging, this burly steel hardtail should take it in its stride. Cotic even reckon you could fit a 160mm fork and take on the Megavalanche!

Noco Fluid FS 6.2

Available in an XS frame size only, the Fluid may be better suited to junior or women riders. Still, it could be a good prospect who don’t want to have to muscle larger wheeled bikes around the trail.

DMR Bolt

Definitely the burliest bike on this list, the DMR Bolt is probably more of a play bike than a trail bike, even more so when you equip it with 26 inch wheels. DMR says: “It can take the rotational forces of slope-style tricks and also the bumpier terrain found in the bike-park. Set the DMR Bolt frame up with a dropper, ride it to the top and destroy the downhill.”

Liteville 301 MK12

Liteville take a different approach to wheelsizes to other brands – they change the wheelsizes they fit depending on the size of the frame. If you buy an XS or an S size frame they will recommend you put 26 inch hoops on it.

Ok so, it’s not a 26 inch bike through and through, but you can still buy it with smaller hoops – a rarity in the trail bike market.

Banshee Spitfire

The Banshee Spitfire is another bike that’s compatible with both 26 inch and 650b wheels and has adjustable dropouts so the geometry isn’t compromised when you switch.

The Spitfire were one of the first bikes to go down the aggro, short route. Despite frame updates, the 26 inch wheel remains to this day.
