SPECIALIZED ENDURO/ANDORRA COMP SHORTS

It’s easy to think that ‘shorts are just shorts’ and that anything will do for riding in. The Specialized Enduro Comps are our current favourite for trail riding and have proved themselves over the last twelve months.

We get to ride and test plenty of options through all conditions from the heat of summer through to the freezing, sodden trails of mid winter. We’ll be testing bikes in them and if they’re still dry will probably wearing them for the rest of the day. A good short almost goes un-noticed when on the bike, and when you find a style that fits perfectly they’ll be the pair you’ll be picking every time. The Specialized Enduro Comps are our current favourite.

So what do we like in these Specialized shorts? A good fit for starters (very similar to the Troy Lee Designs Skyline short) thanks to the stretch of the lightweight VaporRize fabric and a style that splits the difference between a trail and a DH short. Cut to fall just around the bottom of the knee, they have a near perfect inside seam length of 13.5” and sit well with most kneepads. Three inches shorter than their Demo DH short, they work well for general trail riding, uplifting or enduro racing.

The fabric is light yet tough and hasn’t shown any weakness in the long term. Robust enough to shrug of impacts and put up with mud grinding itself into the surface as you pedal. Breathability is great and as you’d hope from such a lightweight material they dry quickly too.

With just enough well placed pockets to be useful and a simple waist adjustment that keeps them in position, these shorts are low profile, uncluttered and don’t hold you back when riding hard. Specialized have thought through the details – access to the hand pockets is from above so the don’t get caught on the saddle. There is also a zip on the right thigh to access the gel pockets on Specialized’s S.W.A.T bib liner short; these two garments work really well together.

The Enduro Comp shorts are true all-rounders that will cope with most types of riding and are always at the top of our kit bag.

Also available in a women’s version – the Andorra Comp short.
