When it comes to running flat pedals the main talking point is usually grip – but there is more to a shoe than just this essential quality. Low weight, construction, shape and foot support along with a quick drying time are also important areas to consider.
This 2FO flat pedal shoe takes into consideration all of the above and adds Specialized’s long-standing Body Geometry fit and foot bed design into the mix. This fit system is ergonomically designed and scientifically tested to boost power, increase efficiency, and reduce chance of injury by optimising hip, knee, and foot alignment. All good news if you’re out on the trails for many hours of pedalling.
‘These 2FO shoes are built to last and have held up well to being used and abused week in, week out’
So, what’s the sole like? The SlipNot rubber compound grips well; it’s maybe not the stickiest and certainly not as grippy as Stealth S1, but with more than enough control and adhesion when matched to our favourite flat pedals. Directional ‘shark-skin’ forefoot tread pattern adds grip on the pedals, while the open hex pattern provides walking traction to the heel area.
The 2FOs sole has an injection-moulded toe kick, anti-tear toe, and high-side cuff for lightweight protection from trail debris and rocks. We’ve found the height of the sole to be a touch higher than other brands (but not a real problem but you may notice it) and prototypes of future models that we’ve been testing have addressed this.
