CHROMAG SCARAB PEDALS

Chromag are based in Whistler and us such do not mess about when it comes to designing and manufacturing products that work well for us here at Dirt.

Their bars and stems have earned plenty of respect from us over the years and now these Scarab pedals have joined this list.

You may be familiar with Brandon Semenuk’s pedal design the Chromag Contact, a light pedal with a body that sits closer to the cranks for trick control. The Scarab is the other option from Chromag (as well as a proper flat pedal for kids) and has some interesting features as well as their well-regarded approach to building durable products for hard use.

Firstly, the Scarab has the usual slim but large (110mm x 105mm) CNC’d platform with nicely rounded corners and a pleasingly low 13mm central height. They hit our scales at 428g a pair.

‘The Scarab is a high quality pedal, from a brand with a reassuringly hardcore pedigree’

These pedals spin on silky smooth bearings and you can rely on the Chromag’s wet Pacific North West testing grounds as proof that they’ll be up to our UK climate. If you’re spending just over one hundred notes on a pair of pedals they need to last well and not rattle themselves loose after a few months.

The Scarab pedals have ten hardened steel pins on each side (with another twelve supplied as spares) and have washers for fine-tuning the height. The deal here though is the ten additional threaded holes for moving or adding pins, giving 42 pin placement options for each pedal letting you ‘tune’ the grip to suit your shoes and personal taste. Maybe it’s something you’ll use, possibly just tweaking the pin position the once and leaving them there, maybe not. If you’re spec’ing a custom build then you can choose from six colours.

The Chromag Scarab is a high quality pedal, from a brand with a reassuringly hardcore pedigree. If you’re not familiar with this brand then check them out.
