The downhill forks of Eurobike 2017

Plenty of goings on in the suspension world

It was (pretty much) all quiet on the Western front for the big two in downhill suspension, allowing some other brands to get a bit of a leg up. Here’s a recap of what’s going to be bolted to the front of your ride in 2018.

Two new forks from BOS including what could be the most exciting mountain bike fork we’ve ever seen. The new Obsys is an inverted fork with 42mm stanchions and even thicker tubes. It’s a true brute but we’re trusting Olivier Bossard to deliver every bit as much as he has in the past. Best of all we’re off to give it a ride soon and we’ll let you know our thoughts asap.

Also new from Bos was an updated Idylle (now called the Dhyos) and the Syors shock. Read the full rundown here.

Formula Nero

We were fist introduced to the Formula Nero fork at Val di Sole when we were given one run to get some early thoughts. There’s a lot going on here with a totally adjustable spring curve. Get a full run down of the tech involved here.

RockShox Boxxer 29

There’s nothing new from Rockshox as far as the Boxxer goes but we got a quick look and some more info on the 29er Boxxer. Basically, RockShox have fused a Lyrik lower with a Boxxer stanchion and cobbled together a new arch – simple as that.

There’s currently no plans to make an aftermarket or OEM model, simply because nobody is asking for one. We’ll wait and see how it plays out but clearly there’s still some way to go in terms of 29er suspension on downhill bikes!

SR Suntour

A few important changes to the Rux at Eurobike. Mainly the growth to 36mm stanchions (outgrowing the Boxxer) but also boost options made available. They’ve also shaved some weight thanks to new casings.

Nothing new from Fox/Marzocchi, they traditionally do all their launches at Sea Otter. The message seems to be, especally where Marzocchi are concerned, watch this space…
