Every downhill bike at Eurobike 2017

Slim pickings in Friedrichshafen

You’ve no doubt already read a hot take on the barren wasteland that was Eurobike 2017. Big brands have deserted it and next year’s big releases have already happened or are being saved for Sea Otter. We were left with halls filled with commuter e-bikes, cargo bikes and, depressingly, scooters.

We took a lap round every hanger to find out how many downhill bikes there were, the answer is “not very many”. A few stipulations first, the bike didn’t have to be new (in fact, only two were) and the bike had to be on its brand’s stand (so for example the prototype Intense on the SRAM stand doesn’t count).

Here’s the downhill machines that Friedrichshafen had to offer:

Transition TR11

Transition are a brand that have roots in gravity bikes and they wanted to finally build a bike that was worthy of World Cup wins. With three already under its belt, the Transition TR11 was the joint most successful downhill bike of the 2017 World Cup, and that’s before its even been released – mission accomplished.

Eurobike was our first chance to get a proper look at the full carbon beauty (full story coming soon).

Orange Strange 29er downhill prototype

Not just a 324 bodged with some new wheels in but a ground up redesign from Orange on its latest downhill prototype. They want customers to think of this more as an Orange Stage 8 as it incorporates everything they’ve learned on their 29er trail bikes into a downhill package.

It sounds like it could be a while before we get a production version of this bike (or its 27.5 inch counterpart) but for now check out a full run down here.

Pedroni Lion

We featured Pedroni bikes in the mag back in 2001 (we think!) and they’ve sprung back to our attention with a fleet of gorgeous custom frames in 2017. They were launching a new enduro bike at the show but it was the Lion dh bike that caught our eye first.

Pedroni bikes is made up three brothers that design and manufacture everything (including laying up the carbon) from their base in Italy. There’s some genuine love put into these frames and it shows when they talk about it.

The Lion is a 27.5 inch carbon downhill bike with an aluminium version also available. More info on the Pedroni website.

Liteville 901 Mk3

The Mk3 version of the Liteville 901 turns it from long travel trail bike to geniune downhill/park bike machine. A new shock link, adjustable geometry and internal routing all now come as standard on this much cleaner looking machine.

Polygon Colossus UR edition

A little bit lighter, a little bit longer and with a carbon link, there’s a swathe if updates on this team edition bike. Better get in there fast though, only 25 are due to be produced and there’s a new ‘zebra bike’ coming soon.
