VOUILLOZ LAPIERRE DOWNHILL BIKE
The most successful downhill racer ever, Nicholas Vouilloz was at last week’s Lapierre press camp in Morzine getting some runs in preparation for the forthcoming Megavalanche. As well as riding his race prepared super-quick sub 12kg carbon Zesty he was hitting the Pleney side of town on his Bos equipped downhill bike. After much banter from other journalists Dirt’s Steve Jones managed to get an exclusive ride on one very special downhill bike. Keep an eye on one of the forthcoming issues for a test and full run-down on how the Frenchman sets up his bike for action.
Jones was also there to witness first hand the master sectioning the track in monumental fashion seemingly having lost none of his finesse or bottle. At one point Nico was seen going absolutely flat out and low into one of the lower step–downs before getting in a couple of pedal strokes where nearly everyone fears to let go of the brakes.
Its now seven years since the multi – multi champion quit world cup racing in the neighbouring village of Les Gets to begin a rally driving career. The scary fact is the man from southern France has been focussed and competitive high speed for the past eighteen years and even though he seems to be in a bit of a transition at the moment has a very clear goal for the forthcoming event in Alp D’Huez. Vouilloz, relaxed and open was the last man at the bar slamming the odd Mojito in a fashion even Peaty would have been proud of. Great to see him out on the trails.
