It was Megavalanche time in Peru at the weekend. Our man on the scene Jonny Boy is still alive and sending reports back via his internet-pan-pipe-phone about the downhill hill endurance race. Part one here. Part two below.
Its been our first day of practice today and it as been a little on the damp side. It started off ok but by 2.00pm the top of the mountain was a very desolate place. Low visibillity, wind and rain turned the track into a wild and wooly spot – didn´t seem to bother the llamas much though.
The track is a true test of skills and endurance with only acouple of short downhill road sections to get some blood back into your arms. After the bog at the top (which goes on for about a mile) you hit some superfast singletrack which is pretty exposed in spots and from there down its techy rock and mud sections. Oh and theres a few big booters Jonsey failed to mention just before the finish when you cant even feel your bars. That said they haven´t unseated any of us yet but they look a damn smaller on uTube
Qualifying kicks off tomorrow with more rain so should be exciting.
Catch you later
PS. I nearly forgot. Last night I was chatting to a french chap at the diner table discussing last years French mega and it turns out he is the living egend that is THE COW I feel I´ve unmasked a true superhero but I can’t seem to keep up with him to bag a shot without the suit!!
