This Specialized Commander seatpost arrived in the office this morning.
It’s the latest adjustable seatpost offering, and comes from the guys at Specialized. It has 100mm of travel, and has 3 locking height positions. We like it in the office because the locking mechanism is mechanical, unlike all the other posts on the market.
It also has a locking mechanism so there’s no saddle movement and you adjust the height from your bars, so no reaching under the saddle while riding. The post alone weighs 531g, and with all the kit (cable, lever and special guide pipe) comes to 609g, so it’s not really a weight weenies option.
The only thing is the cable used for the adjustment doesn’t seem to be a normal shift cable, but we reckon you could get away with one if you had to for a track side repair.
It only comes in the 30.9 specialized size, but will be great for all the bikes with limited seat tube length. I’m sure this will be hammered so look out for a full test of adjustable seat posts in the magazine soon.
