Extreme engineering challenge

Hope, the BarnoldsWick engineering company are offering students and school kids the chance to work with them to produce a promotional product. Here’s the full low down.

The extreme engineering challenge.

The extreme engineering challenge is a competition for teams of KS3 and KS4 students that involves working on a real design brief set by Hope Technology. Hope is an engineering company that manufactures high-quality mountain bike components. They would like to involve your students in the development of a promotional product, to be distributed at the Cycle Show in London in October 2008.

In each of the two age categories, students are invited to design a product to promote the Hope brand in a creative and innovative way. A film on the Hope website shows how the company manufactures some of its components. This is an essential starting point for students entering the competition.

The challenge could be run as part of your KS3 curriculum, as a curriculum extension project, or as part of a GCSE engineering or design and technology project.

What can you win?

The prizes for both age categories include a first prize of £500 for each team member to personalise their bike with Hope kit, plus educational resources worth over £1,000 for their school.

How to enter.

Register electronically to enter the competition by emailing a contact name (probably a teacher), the name of your school and a phone number to [email protected] by 20 June 2008.

Each school can enter one team in each age category. The final deadline for entries is 18 July 2008.

For more information email [email protected] or check out the Hope website.
