Stroker Gram and Stroker Ace
As you may already be aware, Hayes are preparing to launch two new, higher-end additions to the Stroker platform. The Stroker Gram will be our lightweight XC/AM brake with a system weight of 355g (six inch post-mount). The Stroker Ace will use a new four-piston caliper to provide enhanced stopping power for long-travel all-mountain, freeride, and downhill applications, yet will weigh only 431g, a full 36g less than the Avid Code (six inch post-mount).
The Gram and the Ace both use modified Stroker master cylinders with the Gram benefiting from weight reductions and the Ace receiving a longer lever with higher hook for enhanced power and control. At the caliper, the Gram saves weight by virtue of aluminium-backed pads and Ti-bridge bolts. The Ace features a four-piston, mono-block, forged caliper with two red bore plugs that scream “look at all these pistons!” to everyone who’s been waiting for a gravity-specific brake from Hayes.
We’ve invested a lot of time and effort into giving these new brakes the best visual appeal possible. Each has its own graphic theme, which extends to logos and artwork, both on the brakes themselves and in the supporting materials we will create. The Ace graphics invoke images of ruggedness and freedom, while the Gram has an elegant, technical sophistication. We are confident that no existing brake has received such intense, professional design work. The result will be two marquee products that will be instantly recognizable on any bike.
Testing of these products started in 2006, and the initial impressions have been very favourable.
