Well. Nelson, NZ – The Kaka Hill Downhill round is upon us again as savage as ever! Possibly the
steepest most rocky and blown out track on the national scene. The time has come again for racers
from Elite to the wee Grommies, to navigate their way down the course under pumped up forearms
from excessive braking, and near bald tyres from flying down loooose rocky chutes, makes for an
entertaining round of DH.
With the track getting more and more blown out seeding and race runs were all over the shop and
people heading away to the Triple One Medical boys meant there were a few gaps by the end of the
day. With a major contender and last years national champs winner Wyn Masters getting hauled up
to the top of the track with a compound fracture to the right forearm.
The pace was just like the weather this year… HOT! The weather turned out to be a scorcher up in
the high 30s and humidity up around 95!! In the big boys, the top local favorite elite rider, Kieran
Bennett had a major off and came down “OTA” leaving room for Justin Leov and Cam Cole to take the
top two spots and Brook Macdonald bringing up 3rd in the elites. The under 19 boys winner had a
hell of a run and is claimed 6th fastest time overall! Chur, the young bucks are charging this year!.
Wrapping up the day, with sunburn and gravel rash on most people, prize giving came and went and
another successful national DH race was ready to be packed up.
So with all that out of the way the last word goes out to the person who squashed Scolsey’s banana
and peaches…. you’ve got a lot to answer for buddy. See you next round!!.
