With their large volume and low weight these XR4’s are perfect for rocky trails. They make you feel like you’re riding a bike with a bit more travel, and we’ve found that extra volume considerably cuts down on the number of pinch flats. More often than not a tyre of this size will be slow and weighty, but Bontrager seem to excel at doing the exact opposite.
The low weight combined with a fast rolling tread pattern produces a tyre that far exceeds visual impressions when it comes to speed. It’s not a tyre to be used when things get wet though, it’s just too big and skates around on the surface. Like many of Bontrager’s other excellent tyres this one comes tubeless ready, but there’s also a bargain wire beaded version.
