It’s been a long year for the EWS with thousands of miles traveled and dozens of mountains conquered. The riders are treated to some truly exceptional trails put on by the event hosts so Chris Ball and his team decided to honour the very best ones around with a new award – The Trail of the Year Award presented by Specialized.

Detonate – Tasmania
The one trail that caught everyone’s eye in Tasmania thanks to the foreboding granite slabs that seemed to have been split open like eggs by giants. This guy’s gasp when he first sees them says it all.
Boca do Risco – Madeira
The “mouth of risk” is a repurposed ancient footpath that became too dangerous to walk on so was left to mountain bikers to make their own. It’s steep, exposed and offers some truly stunning views that constantly grapple for your eyes’ attention.
