Lenzerheide World Cup 2016: Danny Hart wins men’s qualifying as Aaron Gwin crashes

A big shake up at the top

Danny Hart won the men’s qualifying for the Lenzerheide World Cup as Aaron Gwin crashed out.

Hart was fastest in every sector but his time of 3:09.768 was still a second slower than Gwin’s timed training time of yesterday. As the course deteriorates it could be natural that times slightly increase, or maybe Gwin just put down a stormer yesterday – we’ll find out tomorrow but for what it’s worth the women and juniors both went faster today. This was Hart’s first qualifying win since Fort William in 2013.

Gwin went down off the plunge that caught out Claudio on Wednesday and caused two broken legs yesterday, he apparently trapped his seat on his shorts.

George Brannigan was the surprise of the show as he hucked his way into second place. Last year’s winner Greg Minnaar came down in third and Mike Jones carried his form over from Les Gets to place fourth. It was a best ever qualifying for Hart’s team mate Laurie Greenland in fifth.
