It’s becoming quite common for brands to follow in the footsteps of Specialized’s EVO project. Specialized took their standard bikes then ramped the spec up to 11 to create gravity focussed builds – think wider bars, shorter stems and, usually, a bit more travel.

BMC, Scott and now Kona are on board and its latest bike is the Hei Hei which comes in Race or DL flavours.

For £4k you can get the same 1,800 gram frame used to deliver either XC speed, thanks to a 100mm Reba fork, or trail thrills with a 120mm Fox 34 fork and XT drivetrain. The changes in travel also mean a 1° difference in head angle and an 8mm difference in wheelbase.
