The riders started the day within tempting sight of Whistler Village’s famous Fitzsimmons chair lift but there was not going to be anything so easy for them on the first four stages of today’s race. Only for the fifth stage would they use a lift.
Combining the tough liaisons with savage stages and sweltering heat had a fair few of the field feeling apprehensive. Opportunity was there for the technically strong riders to take advantage but they’d have to keep their head in the heat.
Crankworx was all set to serve up a ferocious race and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
