First look: Fort William’s new section

A new top section style bit of track at Fort Bill

Since Kovarik’s domination in 2002, Fort William has remained pretty much untouched. A grey ribbon winding through Aonach Mor that’s caused 14 years of battered rims, punctures and beaten bodies.

Chickens? Not on this course…

This year though, there’s been a lot of work done. A new section scars the bog starting at the Deer gate and finishing down at the woods. Rider consensus seems to be that it’s going to be flat out and pretty much a continuation of the top section – no bad thing. Here’s a look at every feature on the new section or you can watch it thanks to Ben Cathro below:

It's a sharp right after the Deer Gate into the fresh orange dirt
A small step into a flat our left hander
These totems have been built on the top of the berms, reckon they'll survive the weekend?
Two options here, up on the rocks on the left or an inside huck
This is right under the chairlift and will no doubt look great from above
There's another huck following directly after, this one drops you into some gnarly rocks though
Expect to be landing right on that outcrop...
Thankfully there's a big catch that spite you towards a short woods section
For now the dirt is smooth but there are plenty of roots just waiting to be revealed underneath
Stumps, rocks, roots, hucks, there's a bit of everything in this 20 metre section
Straight after the woods comes this sizable step down, probably 15 foot out.
Then just a series of swooping berms brings you back to the normal track
There's not much rest though as it brings them out into last year's tricky, greasy woods section
